When BioWare launched Mass Effect 3, we had the incredible opportunity to bring the game’s deep lore and fan-favorite characters to life through the Mimoco platform. This wasn’t just about recreating portraits; it was about capturing the distinct “galactic” aesthetic of a world-class video game franchise.
I led the character design process for the series, translating the high-detail armor and alien features of icons like Garrus Vakarian, Liara T’Soni, and Commander Shepard into the stylized MIMOBOT form. The challenge lay in the balance: keeping the designs “cute” enough for the platform while retaining the battle-hardened, cinematic grit that Mass Effect fans expect.
For me, this project was a lesson in fan-centric design—ensuring that every detail, from Liara’s asari head-fringe to Garrus’s signature eyepiece, felt authentic to the players who lived those stories.
