With the Star Wars universe constantly expanding, it’s fun to look back at the characters that paved the way. This Captain Rex MIMOBOT was a highlight from my 2017 design slate at Mimoco.
The challenge with the Clone Troopers was always in the details — translating the battle-worn grit of Captain Rex’s unique armor into the iconic, stylized MIMOBOT form. Seeing the legendary character’s aesthetic live on (and seeing Temuera Morrison return to the screen) makes this project feel more relevant than ever.
As a designer, it was a masterclass in IP storytelling: ensuring that even on a small tech canvas, the character’s fierce personality and “Clone Wars” heritage were instantly recognizable to fans and collectors alike.
